Hospitality is taken much more seriously in Cambodia than in the USA. There is really a question as to whether Americans could match the energy of a Cambodian host.
The honor due to guests must be properly received, regardless of cost. Insisting that everyone join in may make the situation difficult -- there may not be enough. One response is to host another occasion and insist on paying. This will acknowledge your appreciation for the hospitality received. Another possibility is to make a gift to parents for their children. It is usually proper to make a gift to a child.
Never get into a competition to pay for a meal.
