A discussion of immigration issues
One People of God
A Statement by the Administrative Board of
Community United Methodist Church
“Our Christian roots are centered among people who were sojourners in the land.” Book of Resolutions, 1996, p.549. Indeed, we are all pilgrims together seeking out the Kingdom of God.
So we make this commitment, the United Methodist Church at Jackson Heights to all of our members:
1. All members shall have equal status, regardless of citizenship or documents.
2. We stand with active members who face INS action. In the event of deportation, we will make sure that local Christians at the destination can assist in
relocation or a local church leader or pastor will travel to that destination to assist.
3. We will maintain contact with Amnesty International and the General Board of Church and Society for members who face harassment or persecution
in another country because of deportation from the United States. We will provide that same support for members who are incarcerated in the United States for reasons of status.
