Helpful Details for Your Mission Trip

Money
Include money for tourist items and gifts in Phnom Penh and any American food in Cambodia. Foreign food is especially expensive. Include money for requests that Cambodians may make. You are under no social obligation to respond to such requests but they will be made. Take resealable clear bags for the currency of each stopover destination so that coins remain separate. Take lots of one dollar bills as tips.
If you have a credit card, cash is available in Phnom Penh -- but costly. Traveler’s checks are a safe way to carry cash. To start, please bring in cash what you will need for souvenirs. This should be placed in a secure location on your body – such as a waist wallet or hung around your neck.
The $2,300 payment includes air fare, ground and other transportation in Cambodia but not emergency or medical evacuation, It covers Cambodian style meals. It also covers double occupancy hotel rooms, security personnel, water, departure tax in Cambodia and guide fees and hospitality. Costs not covered include medical treatment and medication, and personal toiletries, sightseeing. (NOTE: Late Reservations may have a surcharge by the airlines. Check for trip cost when you sign up.)

Medicine -
Check with a doctor who has Asian experience. Doctors who aren’t sure will often over-prescribe. Lariam for malaria protection and Bactrim for Traveler’s Diarrhea are often prescribed. Travel insurance is mandatory and this is a link, to one such company. http://www.wallach.com/ Take an extra pair of glasses. For easy pre-made medical kits, travel wallets, and many other interesting items (that weigh quite a bit), check http://www.travmed.com/
Dentist - make sure you get a check up before. Tooth problems can be dangerous to deal with in some clinics and this is one of the most common ways to ruin a mission experience.

Youth under 18 -
Parents/Guardians will need to submit permission to travel with the tour director in a notarized statement that includes the date of travel and destinations involved and the name of the director.

 Documents
Exchange copies of the first page of your passport with another traveler. Also make a xerox copy of your passport. In certain circumstances, this will be shown to officials instead of the actual document. Of course, your passport and air ticket need to be carried securely at all times. There may be no safe or residence where these can be safely left. A copy of your passport must be sent to the tour director before ticket is purchased. Date on passport expiration must be at least 6 months after trip concludes.

 Clothing and Luggage-
Avoid jewelry or expensive watches. Avoid the use of a cross as decoration. Avoid shorts. Pack light. While international rules are usually 70 pounds of baggage, Cambodia in country flights have a limit of 40 pounds.
Magazine to read on the plane or game? Tape or CD player? Take a list of names and address of people to whom you will send cards. Bring some “comfort” food.
